TD Outdoor Learning Centre
Client City of Calgary
Location Calgary | Alberta | Canada
The TD Outdoor Learning Centre is a small pavilion that provides the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary with a tranquil location within nature for pause, viewing, and environmental education. The approx. 700 sf pavilion incorporates wood elements and detailing that reflect the historical character of Colonel Walker’s sawmill that was once located within Walker’s homestead, where the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary currently exists.
O2 worked closely with the City of Calgary and the Bird Sanctuary’s education team to design and oversee the construction of the pavilion to provide educational features which aim to enhance understanding of the surrounding environment. Sitting on the banks of the Bow River the pavilion’s unique heavy timber design frames the surrounding riparian habitat and the distant skyline of Calgary’s downtown.
