Augustana Area Redevelopment Plan

O2 was appointed to prepare the first Area Redevelopment Plan for the City of Camrose. The Plan area was situated adjacent to the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus and was within close proximity to Downtown Camrose. One of the key goals of the Area Redevelopment Plan was to allow for sensitive growth in strategic locations, while preserving the existing character of the community. As part of the Plan development, a set of overarching Guiding Principles were prepared that informed policies on issues that included land use, mobility and the public realm, parks and infrastructure. A highly enthusiastic Working Group was established to guide the development of a neighbourhood concept and series of infill residential design guidelines. 

These guidelines provided certainty for the community, City administration and developers on the expectations for future development in the area. The Plan included implementation policies and indicators that will evaluate the success of the Plan over time. Key projects were identified and prioritized along with potential sources of funding.

Extensive engagement with the community and key stakeholders fostered an open and transparent process and the creation of Camrose’s first Community Association will ensure an ongoing dialogue between the community, the City and other stakeholders.
